A Peace of Advice

5/18/14

Do you ever get some advice that you know is just so wrong for you, you want to end it completely that you say
"You're so right, thanks for the great advice."

Because they are right, but you know it just didn't fit for you.  And I realize how fake that comes off, but let's not be a complete butthole to people who are only trying to help.

Or, sometimes, I know what they're saying is right, but I just don't want to accept it.
"No--no, no don't say that yet.  Let me be angry for another day."

Well, this past week I was reminded of how completely blessed I am to have the greatest friends and family who know just the right things to say when I find myself in the funkiest of funks.  Down in the dumps.  Pit-in-your-stomach-hollow feeling.  And I have just been too overwhelmed and exhausted to deal with anything.

And how great is Kimber for leaving me cute notes on our desk at work!?  Definitely made my crappy day a little better :)

Guys, not even doughnuts can cheer me up!  Honestly, is there a button I can switch off so that I can go back to normal?

Anyway, I've had so many great talks with great people and everything was great. Great, great, great.  But, by far, the best advice I've heard that gave me some peace of mind was given by the great Kimbo-Slice (Kimber) herself:

"Invest your time and energy into other relationships."

Improve your relationships with people, rehash old/broken friendships, or pay more attention to acquaintances (and maybe even work your way to a new friendship?).  There is just so much you can do other than mope and sulk and feel completely bad for yourself for not doing this or enough of that.  (Although there is absolutely nothing wrong in sulking for like a day or two..or three)...(or four).
This piece of advice isn't directed to any specific situation people are going through, I think it could easily apply to anything.  And I'm sure it would help anyone, just as an individual, in general.

You could honestly make someone's day by paying them an honest to God, truthful compliment or any kind of word of encouragement or recognition.

So, say goodbye to exhausting, stubborn relationships/friendships and come back to the ones that matter :)
And, don't forget your random compliments of the day because how good does it feel when someone notices the hairstyle you spent hours on, or the little quirks that you put a lot of thought into?
