It was for my high school photography class and I was 16 years old. We were told to turn in a self-portrait.
I look pretty much the same. Just different colored hair and chubbier cheeks.
Uncovering this picture brought back a lot of memories. The funny and weird and embarrassing ones. It was high school, so it's guaranteed. The story behind this photo is that it was actually inspired by the boy I liked at the time. He had taken a picture like that before and I thought it was cool idea and very representative of me. Always in the fridge.
You know those times in grade school when almost everything you did had a little something to do with them? Taking different routes to classes? Baking cupcakes every other week? Anyone? Or was I just that boy-crazy? Well, they were called schoolgirl crushes for a reason and us schoolgirls did everything to study them. Once, I convinced my sister's boyfriend to let me play FIFA & Call of Duty almost everyday for two weeks because the guy I liked loved playing those games. And how cool would it be if I knew how to play, too?! Some major brownie points I tell you. Gosh dang was I horrible at BOTH games.
My first class in the boy department was to always figure out what kind of music they listened to. I was trying to jump off the train of my R&B first love for music and stop letting Tamia sing my life story.
Now, let me tell you. Refrigerator Boy had one of thee best tastes in music. I started learning about so many cool bands and most importantly, I developed a newfound love for Taking Back Sunday.
A thousand clever lines unread on clever napkins, anyone?
Eventually, things moved forward with RB and I that we lived the dream of completely rocking out to "Cute Without the E" in the car one day. He took the bridge.
I credit this movie for some of the things I learned on how to get a guy's attention. Maybe 10 things. But, I soon learned that my love for cheesy 90s teen movies aren't that great of a rulebook.
Even Summer Finn can prove to you that having music in common does do some damage :)
