The Best Songs to...

6/28/13

This morning, I woke up to silence.  (Which, obviously, a lot of people do...).  Ironically, for the sorta "quiet girl," I can't stand silence.  Sometimes.  (Sometimes because I truly believe in silence being golden because in the right moments, it is).

But I got bored with silence rull quick this morning.

And then I had a sudden urge to listen to The National.

So I did.

And it was great.

Let me tell you why.

Because they're great.

And it's the greatest thing to listen to them the first thing in the morning.  And their new album, "Trouble Will Find Me," is sooo incredibly GREAT that I urge you to go listen to it.  Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, Hype Machine, Pandora, WHATEVER.  Just listen.

But, I have to say, for me, the best song to wake up to is definitely...
Maybe it has something to do with waking up in the morning to a song called "The Morning" that's pretty cool, but even so, I love this song.

I love sad songs.  I really don't know why, but I do.  If it's a super true and sad song in the lyrics and rhythm, then I love how real and raw it is.  There's this song by Joan Baez called "Diamonds and Rust" and it's the plainest of songs, but it's real.  And it's raw.  When she sings it live, you can hear it in the way she sings, the way she plays, and her feelings just pour out all over.  I get chills every time I hear it, it is too good.

So, what's the best breakup song?  Well, there are A LOT.  (If you're viewing this on something other than a computer, I'll make it easier for you because sometimes you can't see the videos).

My go-to break up song really takes me back to my roots.  Hah, really--R&B is my first love.
It's a throwback, Mariah Carey and Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony "Breakdown":

If you disagree, it's okay--because I'm laughing too.  But, I'm for real, that's my go-to song and ya know what, I don't even care haha there are really a lot more, but maybe another time...

Okay, enough of this sadness.  The best song to be happy to...
Hall and Oates "You Make My Dreams Come True": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_I4wtNPv5w
If I'm really happy and feeling good and can't even begin to explain it in its in entirety, I'll always say, "You know that scene in ''500 Days of Summer' where he's singing and dancing in the park and giving high-fives to everyone?  That's how I felt!"

Also, let us take a moment to admire the goodness of JGL..
So...yeah...

Nothing calms me down more than taking a late-night drive and my favorite song to play in my "Songs to Listen to in the Car Late at Night" playlist is:
Kings of Leon "Knocked Up": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mzklb9nkXM

So, before this turns into an essay... I leave you with one final video recommendation:
