Chicago: Day One, Pt. I

12/1/13

For the past couple of years, I've been going to Chicago every year.  It wasn't supposed to be a yearly tradition, but it was a consistency that I liked and so I'm holding on to it.  This year, I planned my Chicago trip for Thanksgiving.
My sis and I took a red-eye Tuesday night and arrived in the wee hours of the morning.  We met up with my cousins (bless them for getting up so early for us!) and then headed over to my cousin's place in the city and took a nap.  Talk about family bonding.  Once we all woke up, we headed over to Birchwood Kitchen for some brunch.
My child self ordered a grilled cheese and it was pretty dang good.  My sister and cousin ordered their special breakfast sandwich and that was even better.

After that we headed to this book store Quimby's and looked around.  It was probably one of the most unique bookstores I've ever been to and I only ended up buying a magazine called DISfunkshion.  (I opened up to a random page and the opening lines were, "It was all a dream, I used to read Word Up Magazine," how could I not).  We ended up at a thrift store (their thrift stores are a thousand times better in Vegas) and I got a new messenger bag.  And that was the only other time I shopped during my entire trip!  I was shocked.
We had to make a caffeine run at The Wormhole because that nap we took just a few hours earlier wouldn't suffice for the rest of the day we had ahead of us.  I'm not usually a caffeine drinker, I like my hot chocolate without whipped cream, but I figured when in Rome Chicago...
I got their famous Peanut Butter Koopa Troopa and once again, I am so not a caffeine drinker, but I think this drink may have turned me.  Plus, they had a drink called "The Cosby" and I thought THAT was funny and clever.  We ended up having a pretty chill morning/afternoon and hung out at my cousin's place until dinner and the rest of the night's festivities.
My sis and I being *so candid* while I sport two bags: the one I already had and the one I just bought, which I am obsessed with!  I'm also obsessed with my Vans, I'd pick sneakers over heels any day!

*=may or may not have been "so candid."
