Don't Forget to Love It.

12/18/13

This semester, I learned a lot.  I learned how to make things short, sweet, and to the point.  Never leave the house without a water bottle and a pen (two essentials).  Naps were the only kind of relationship drama I could handle.  I learned that it's okay to stay on campus longer than I have to.  It's also okay if things don't go as planned (even if you spent a lottt of time trying to get it that way), be prepared for surprises, they might be better than the original plan.  If you have an idea, always always  write it down (especially if you're prone to forgetfulness).  Word vomit is the best vomit (as gross as that sounds).  I learned that you need to distance yourself from the people who are doing nothing, but bringing you down--you really don't need to be around all of that negativity, people rub off on each other so make sure you have the good kind :)  There's 1 'c' and 2 'm's in recommend.  And never skip breakfast.  Never.

But, one of the most important things I've learned this semester is "don't forget to love it."

We have a dream, we work to get there, and somehow in the midst of it all, we're miserable and wondering why this is the life we have.  Too often, we let the hardships and craziness become bigger than the goal itself.  And we let it drive ourselves crazy.

There's that quote where if you do something you love, you'll never have to work a day in your life.
It's so cliché and it's so overdone, but it. is. so. true.

This semester was so crazy that if I didn't have my creative writing class, I would be in a straight-jacket, bald, and with some serious eye-bags.  There's a reason why I chose to become a journalist, one being that I love to write.  But when you're forced to do something you don't enjoy and it requires the thing you love, you start to lose it.  Your mind, your sanity, that rush you used to get.  All in all, the reason you loved it in the first place.  It used to make you happy, but you lost that too.

So you have to remind yourself because we all lose our way somehow.  So take a break.  Eat, sleep, take a walk, watch a movie by yourself, binge watch marathons of How I Met Your Mother on Netflix, bake cookies, pray, waste time on Pinterest, or just listen to music.

Just don't lose it.  Don't lose it all.  It's not fair to yourself to cut yourself short of what you actually deserve.  How do you know you deserve it?  Well, give yourself some credit every once in awhile.

Find the light in the tunnel of all that craziness, it'll all be worth it in the end!

But, here's a crazy thing I learned this semester also, you can things done a lot faster if you have
1. no phone
2. no music
3. no t.v.
4. Absolutely, no distractions

Crazy stuff, but it works!

So, I hope you continue to be motivated, always remember to love what you do, and keep making strides to your dream, you'll get there :)
