The Struggle
11/5/13
Oh yeah guys, it's real.
I'd like to say I'm a writer, or at least, I like to write. (But even like is an understatement)
I found myself in journalism when I saw there was so many different opportunities with writing--there's free range in this area. (Don't fall asleep in English class, kids!)
I'm definitely a fiction writer. I love fairytales, myths, and I'm a sucker for a good love story. The whole process of creating a story fascinated me and kept my adrenaline rushing. I was always super wordy when I wrote stuff and I might have enjoyed writing essays a little more than I probably should have.
Since there is such a wide range for writing, there are also different ways to write things.
I'm currently taking a creative writing class (which excites me and scares me at the same time), a print journalism class (which gives me anxiety sometimes), and a broadcast class (which takes up all of my time).
Let me tell you, those are all completely different things and require a different kind of writing.
In my creative writing class, I'm free to write however I want--use flowery language, refer to everyone by their first name, and comma the crap out of everything.
In my print class, I have to keep it straight-forward, informative and become besties with my AP style book. (Not being able to use a comma before "and" in a list, kills me a little bit)
For broadcast, you have to keep it short, concise and compelling. (Appositives are not your friends in this area)
My brain and the writer in me is confusing itself on the things I have to write. It's such a challenge and it's hard. I cannot lie or sugar-coat it that much because I've been really frustrated lately.
Maybe I'm multi-tasking it a little too much? Or maybe this is just ruining my life? (Kidding.)
Whatever it is, I'm still trying to figure it out and keep my sanity at the same time. I love writing for all of them because it all gives me a different feeling (I get to be an author, a reporter, and a producer).
But it all solidifies one thing, I am incredibly, to the point, and passionately in love with writing.
